The Stockholm reach-in
Most apartments here keep clothes behind one or two doors along a bedroom wall. Depths vary — 55 cm in older Södermalm stock, deeper in newer Östermalm renovations. We design interiors that respect those limits instead of fighting them with oversized drawers.
Expect double hanging where height allows, a single long rod for coats, and shelves for folded knits that would otherwise live in a pile on a chair.
Typical layouts
Single bay (80–120 cm)
One hanging column, two to four drawers, and a top shelf for seasonal bags. Ideal for studio bedrooms and guest rooms.
Double bay (140–200 cm)
His-and-hers or work-and-weekend split: short hanging beside long, with a central drawer stack and shoe shelves at floor level.
Doors and fronts
We can reuse existing doors if they sit true, or supply new painted MDF and oak-veneer fronts with soft-close hinges. Mirror panels are available for narrow rooms that need bounce light — common in Vasastan walk-ups facing courtyards.
What we measure carefully
- Skirting and cornice that reduce clear width
- Radiator pipes running behind the niche
- Door arcs that collide with beds or radiators
- Ceiling height for mezzanine shelves
IKEA-adjacent starting points
Some clients already own a Pax-style frame. We can rework internals, add custom fillers to the wall, and replace thin melamine with stronger shelves — keeping cost lower than a full rebuild while improving the joinery feel.
