When a walk-in makes sense
Walk-ins appear most often in larger Östermalm apartments, loft conversions on Södermalm, and renovated attic spaces. If you can spare a clear centre aisle of about 80 cm, we can plan hanging on two or three walls without the room feeling cramped.
Smaller apartments usually stay with reach-ins; we will say so honestly after measuring.
Layout patterns we use
L-shape
Two walls of hanging with a corner shelf tower — good when a window or chimney breast blocks a third wall.
U-shape
Maximum rod length for couples sharing one dressing room; island bench optional if floor area allows.
Light and colour
Northern daylight is soft; we recommend warm LED strips under shelves so navy jackets and soft-gold scarves read true. Avoid cool fluorescent tones that flatten fabric colour at 7 a.m.
Ventilation and building rules
- Keep air paths if the room once held a laundry drying rack
- Confirm electrical additions with a licensed electrician
- Check bostadsrättsförening rules before cutting new openings
Seating and accessories
A slim upholstered bench, pull-out trouser racks, and jewellery drawers with felt liners — details that make the room usable every morning, not only photographable.
Investment range
Walk-in packages commonly range from 28 000 to 65 000 SEK depending on wall length, lighting, and front treatments. Consultations from 1 500–2 800 SEK apply toward the package when you proceed within three months.
